Now that everyone has seen all the bashing that the scanf(3) routine has taken, let me ask if anyone has some pointers to, or information about C code that can read/interpret FORTRAN style FORMAT statements. We often do FORTRAN-to-C translation, and we are not impressed with the various F-to-C packages that we have seen and evaluated. Also, our researchers are usually somewhat familiar with the FORMAT statement. Rather than re-invent a wheel, is there some package that I can pick apart to get this functionality. (of course, I could do FORTRAN/C hybrid code - (shudder)). Thanks much. -- Gregory G.
