The horse that Atienne Navarre (Rutger Hauer) was riding was a Friesian. The Friesian is one of Europe's oldest breeds, and takes its name from Friesland, where a heavy horse existed as far back as 1000 BC. Throughout the midlle ages and into the 18th century, The Friesand was much sought after as a weight-carrying saddle horse. The Friesian is attractive, and sweet natured, and its willingness and active pace make it an ideal all-round working horse. It also finds much favour at horse shows and in circuses. Small in stature, standing around 15 hands high, it is compact and muscular, with a fine head, strong body, short legs with some feather (this gave the horse away in the movie) on the heels, and hard feet. The colour is exclusively black, with no white markings. The horse Marquet was riding (in the final scene) was an Andalucian. Any idea on what type of wolves were used and to what type of hawk? An interesting note. For people who have seen the film. The lake and hawk scene was a mistake. They used the hawk too soon after it had eaten and produced one of the most elegant scenes in the movie. -- ED C UUCP: ...!{ utzoo,decvax,ihnp4,allegra}!watmath!echrzanowski ARPA: echrzanowski%watmath%waterloo.csnet@csnet-relay.arpa CSNET: echrzanowski%watmath@waterloo.CSNET
