[net.movies] Birdy, see it.

I just recently saw this movie and was, in a word, *impressed*.
I'm somewhat appalled at the low attention this movie seems
to have received, though there was a good crowd at the theatre (which
made me happy).. I don't want to write a spoiler for this movie, so I'll
just rave about it.

In a nutshell, the film is not so much a 'war film' as it is
about human psychology. The vietnam war figures in heavily, but
the portrayal of the human psyche in a hostile environment doesn't
begin or end there in this movie.

The acting is impeccable. If any fault at all could be found with the acting,
it's that the two stars (Mathew Bodine & Nicholas Cage) turn in such
gripping performances that one hardly notices some of the top notch
character acting going on around them.

The sets are first rate, the attention to detail is meticulous.
Some of the battle scenes have you cringing with the realism
of it. All of this said, one might think one was in for one heck of a
downer with this movie. In all fairness, you will leave with a lot
to think about, but the movie somehow manages to inject an ironic
sort of humor in often enough to balance everything out beautifully.
Couple this with some genuinly touching moments and you have a movie
that leaves you thinking "Gee, I can't think of a single change I would have
made. It was perfect"..

        This CPU's dead!

"Er, no it's not. It's just in a wait state (holds down

It did not! You cycled the power!

		"No I didn't! It's just pausing for I/O!"
