As a personal project, I am starting a Fortran 90 manual that I plan to publish commercially. This manual will not be a textbook like Metcalf and Reid, but a practical guide that helps engineers and scientists quickly upgrade their dusty-deck or standard FORTRAN 77 programs to robust Fortran 90. To help in this effort, I am looking for: 1. Realistic program examples showing practical uses for new features in the standard. 2. Reviewers for drafts of the manual. 3. Sites that have compilers containing new features, where people are willing to run my program examples. Please understand that I am pursuing this project for the benefit of the computer field. I do not expect to make money on the book. To carry through the project, I need to build up and draw upon an international pool of expert users who get involved for the same reasons I have: to hasten the spread of Fortran 90 and of good programming practices in general. Although I have no financial remuneration to offer, I will certainly cite individuals and organizations in the book for all kinds of help, such as contributions of ideas, examples, and computer time. My qualifications for this project stem from my work over several years as a technical writer, where I have tested and documented the use of Fortran in several commercial scientific systems. In particular, I wrote a full reference manual for FORTRAN 77 at my current employer, Concurrent Computer Corporation (formerly MASSCOMP).
