[net.movies] BB questions

chris@ISM780.UUCP (04/30/85)

I finally got around to seeing Buckaroo Banzai last friday. There
were a few questions that sorta stuck in my mind, and i was hoping
that someone more familiar with the movie could explain them to me.

	(1) What was the thing that BB found under the car after
	    zipping through the mountain?

	(2) What was PP trying to do with the gun, and what did
the scene in the jail really mean?

	(3) Were all the Hong Kong Cavaliers supposed to look like
rock stars? Perfect Tommy looked like Billy Idol, and
the guy who died of the spider bite looked like Bruce
	    Springsteen.

	Thanks in Advance

A red squishy organic icky thing of course....

Shoot the guy next to her by aiming through her ear....

Apparently just some sort of random lifeform. I though I saw one of the
Red Lectroids carrying one around just before it shot one of the spiders
at one of BB's men, so perhaps that's where they come from.

She was trying to kill herself. The bit in the jail is when Buckaroo realizes
that PP is the twin sister of his wife, who {disappeared, died,???}.

It's described as a "curiously shaped parasite", is obviously alive, and
not obviously related to any life form in our ordinary plane of experience.
Plotwise, it serves as tangible proof that B. Banzai actually went somewhere
other than just into a mountain and out again.

She was trying to commit suicide -- she had it aimed at her head when the
waitress bumped her elbow and it went off. In the jail Buckaroo realizes
that she's the twin sister of his late (?) wife. The "(?)" is a potential
spoiler to hoped-for sequels to the novel _Buckaroo Banzai_. I assume
that's what you're asking about the jail scene?

I don't think they were supposed to look like particular rock stars, although
of course they are themselves rock stars (you mean you haven't heard of the
famous H. K. Cavaliers??). Somebody told me he though B. Banzai resembled
Adam Ant, if you want more examples. Also Pinky Carruthers, one of the
guitar players, was played by Billy Vera, who has his own band, "Billy
and the Beaters".

On their wedding day, Buckaroo Banzai's wife was killed by the
World Crime League, masterminded my Hanoi Xan.

She was *apparently* killed ... Captain Happen, a Banzai Institute intern
or resident who was suborned by Xan, asserted under duress just before his
suicide that Peggy was still alive. When B. Banzai and company opened her
grave in the family plot in Texas, it was empty. Think the slight scars
behind Penny's ears have any bearing on this mystery?

Given this ambiguity, I'd say the {disappeared, died, ???} of the original
poster is justified.

Actually, the Red Lectroid had the "thing from under the car" because
they were trying to get rid of any evidence of their existence as well as
stealing the Overthruster.

But then, they left behind the spider-things, so stealing the thing-from
-under-the-car was not too smart. But then again, they ARE Red Lectroids!
