[comp.lang.fortran] Nifty Routines - Where to get 'em!

tlynchmj@cc.curtin.edu.au (05/24/91)

Here is my late followup to NIFTY ROUTINES?

I recieved many replies telling me computer driven file servers called
NETLIB. NETLIB is an archive of hundreds of routines and programs in
various programs (mainly Fortran) send free to anybody who can post and
recieve via Email. There a quite a few servers all around the world. I
had the addresses of about 8 ranging from the USA to Europe and even one
down here in Australia!! Unfortunately I lost my mail file and I only have
a few addresses left.

The respose to me from the Australian server was about 3 minutes although
I can find its addresss. (Can anyone who knows any addresses that I don't
list below please followup this message and add their addresses).

All you have to do is send a message with a few simple commands. The best place
to start is with the following message...

send help
send index
send index for fortran

You will recieve a series of replies with help files and indexes. All of the
servers contain the same files so use the one closest to you.

Here are some addresses to try...

"netlib@research.att.com"
"netlib@ornl.gov"

There is also a STATLIB containing statistical software but I lost that
address too. The software is compressed using the typical UNIX compression
methods so if you, like me, use a VMS or other non-unix system then you'll
have a ball extracting them.

Sorry about the huge delay in my posting but I've been so damn busy.

Thanks to all who mailed to me.
