Well I just saw "The Goonies" at it's sneak preview at the Uptown theatre in Washington DC and I must say I was pleasently surprised. First of all, the title "The Goonies" makes this movie sound like a big-screen version of the "Addams Family." I half expected to see Gomez Addams blowing up trains again. Well nothing of the sort! What we have here is, in fact, a group of kids who call themselves "Goonies" embarking on a "Radiers of the Lost Ark" style adventure. The movie starts off with an exciting and amusing car chase although it immediatly slows to a boring pace as the characters are developed. The start of their adventure is almost laughably lame. It isn't until the adventure is well underway, however, that your interest and concern for the characters is finally kindled. This is a slickly crafted film. Highly recomended, I would see it again simply for the Spielbergesque ending. Like all movies there are things to criticize and segments I would have liked to have seen done over again. One thing that I did find rather disturbing was the muddled dialogue. Is this because they were using child actors who could not enunciate properly? Sometimes I couldn't hear a thing they were saying. Oh well. Don't worry about scary things. This one is quite tame. Just go... suspend your sense of disbelief ... and enjoy. -- UUCP: ...{decvax,ihnp4,allegra}!seismo!trwatf!root - Lord Frith ARPA: trwatf!root@SEISMO "Money from da Buddah"
