Anyone happen to be walking through your local downtown/mall/newspaper stand
this weekend and see the copy of USA Today with a picture of Sly Stallone on
it, under the 18-point caption "USA'S NEW JOHN WAYNE"? Can you say "Hype",
boys and girls?
Not that I thought John Wayne was a very nice person in real life (read
Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail"), but his
acting ability was certainly there (when a good enough director would bring
it out -- John Ford) in films like _RED_RIVER_, _THE_SEARCHERS_, and
_THE_MAN_WHO_SHOT_LIBERTY_VALANCE_. True, if they were refering to Wayne's
awful _THE_GREEN_BERETS_, then there is a link to Stallone's _RAMBO_; but
really, you Fleet Street hacks, try to stop hyping mediocre actors to
positions of past glory.
I just HATE USA Today & PEOPLE *so much*... (Now THOSE would be great places
to let Dirty Harry loose on...).
