[comp.lang.prolog] DCG.PL copyright notice

ok@quintus (07/28/88)

I have just been slapped on the wrist for my previous posting.
Not for posting the DCG translator as such, but for the form of the
copyright notice. I wrote it on my own without consulting anyone
at Quintus: that is *not* a "Quintus-approved" form of copyright
notice. Quintus as a company has no official policy on GNU-style
copyright notices. The copyright notices in the Quintus Prolog
Library, for example, are just plain copyright notices.

Why did I unilaterally put such a notice on DCG.PL?
Well, parts of C Prolog have turned up in other Prolog systems, so
it seemed likely that DCG.PL might turn up in other Prolog systems
too. That's what it's *for*, of course, but given that the posting
was composed and sent on Quintus time with Quintus resources, I
thought it only fair that Quintus should get some credit for it,
should it turn out to be useful. Also, I hoped to protect myself
from rebuke. Well, _that_ didn't work.

I apologise for giving the impression that Quintus use "copylefts".
