I've just been reading the document ISO/IEC JTC1 SC22 WG17 N12 BSI IST/17 - Prolog PS/244 "Prolog Oxford 1988 papers". It is extremely amusing to read the position statements of various groups. Time and again you see someone saying "this feature isn't used much and could be deleted", when it's something I use every day. I really begin to wonder how many of the people who want to seize power over Prolog have ever used it much. (Actually, that's a lie, I've never been in any serious doubt...)
