[comp.lang.prolog] Parallel Parlog Announcement

jac@doc.ic.ac.uk (Jim Crammond) (10/12/89)

We are now distributing the first release of our Parallel Parlog system.

Parallel Parlog is a portable implementation of Parlog designed to run on
Unix based shared memory multiprocessors. The implementation is based on an
abstract machine called the "JAM" (Jim's Abstract Machine). The basic system
comprises a JAM emulator, written in C; a Parlog to JAM compiler, written
in Parlog, and a programming environment including a query interpreter also
written in Parlog.

A single processor version of the system is also available for uniprocessor
Unix machines; this version is significantly faster than the sequential
Parlog system, the SPM, any may be seen as a replacement for this older
version of Parlog.

The environment has been developed to provide a Prolog-like interface
similar to that provided by Quintus and Sicstus Prolog's, for example, most
builtin predicates are based on equivalent Prolog predicates.
The distribution also includes an object oriented extension to Parlog
called Polka.

The multiprocessor version of the system is currently available for Sequent
Balance, Sequent Symmetry, Encore Multimax and Alliant FX systems. The
one processor version is available for Sun workstations.

There is a handling charge of 200 pounds or US$300. Anyone interested in
obtaining a copy should contact Miss Denise Smith at the address below for
further details.
