[comp.lang.prolog] SICStus installation

spiro@a.gp.cs.cmu.edu (Spiro Michaylov) (12/21/90)

In the README file of the SICStus Prolog v0.6 distribution, paragraph 2.3
on installation says that "PROLOGPATH should not be more than 26 characters
long." Does anybody know what terrible things will happen if it is more than
26 characters long, under what ciscumstances it will happen, and what, if
anything, can be done about it? This isn't just idle curiosity -- I plan to
exceed the limit, and even if it seems to work, I want to be sure that I
haven't created some sort of time bomb.

My environment is a heterogeneous mess including Sun3, Sun4, Vax, 3100
running Mach, Sunos, BSD and Ultrix in various combinations.

Thanks in advance,
