XbApplications have not been very visible at logic programming conferences despite many attempts to solicit them in the Call for Papers for the conferences. Part of the reason for the lack of application papers is that the refereeing for conferences encourages original research results, and discourages reporting of known applications. As an attempt to make applications more visible, I volunteered to organize a poster session on applications of logic programming at the coming conference on logic programming to be held in San Diego in 1991. The reason for suggesting a poster session is to have a different forum for presenting work, one which works in other fields such as biology, where interested people can chat in some detail about your experiences with developing a logic programming application. I believe sharing of such experiences is important and valuable. However, judging from the experience of the International Logic Programming Conference where few papers were submitted to a poster session, just announcing a poster session is insufficient to attract reports of applications. I would like to start a discussion of what vehicle readers of comp.lang.prolog would find most valuable for including reports on applications at conferences (or if indeed people would like to find a way). Some suggestions I have heard is to make the session hands-on, i.e. insist that applications come with demos, changhing the poster session to a workshop, and soliciting individuals directly without goibng through a lengthy review process. Please send me your comments and suggestions. I will summarize interesting discussions on the net. Leon Sterling
