[comp.lang.prolog] Object oriented PDC Prolog

F0O@psuvm.psu.edu (01/24/91)

Does anyone know when the object oriented version of PDC prolog
will be coming out? I believe it is this year, but I'm not sure when.

                                                      Thanks!

I doubt if you'll get any other answer, as not even we know ( :-) ),
but it will be this year, and sooner rather than later. My best
guess is early summer, but it's still impossible to tell, as not
everything is finalised. The main outstanding issue is graphics
integration, as the OO-stuff in many ways ties in with modern-
day GUIs. This means a redesign of the PDC IDE and library UI-
support (strong on windowing and all that stuff) is necessary.
Moreover, we're very keen on maintaining source-code portability
across all the platforms we support (DOS, DOS extender, OS2,
UNIX), allowing (commercial) users to port applications simply by
recompiling the source-code. This we now do with textmode programs,
but we wish to preserve that capability. However, the actual changes
to the compiler will probably be on a smaller scale than the changes
required in programmer mentality and library code ... :-) ...
if anybody have clear and strong (``well-founded'', that is :-) ),
ideas about what the result should look like, we'd love to hear
about it ... adresses as per below.
