Read this morning that Chuck Norris, that purveyor of masculine American
values, feels that we all looking like "wimps" to the rest of the world with
our attitude towards hijackers, as shown in the TWA caper of the last few
weeks. He feels that a strike force could have gotten the hostages out, and
cleaned up Beirut in the bargain, with little problem.
May I suggest that the next time something like this happens, we hand Chuck
an M-16, drop him out of a helicopter over the target zone (a parachute is
not necessary if he lands on his head), and see how far he gets? If he
suceeds, it'll be a miracle; but if he fails, we could just tell the
hijackers he was some demented twit who had taken his roles too seriously
and was working independently of the US, his film backers, and reason in
general. And the drive-ins would have to get their fodder someplace else...
