[comp.lang.prolog] LPA 386-PROLOG

ok@goanna.cs.rmit.oz.au (Richard A. O'Keefe) (03/22/91)

It turns out that Logic Programming Associates of
Studio 4, Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, Trinity Rd,
London SW18 3SX, England,
have a Prolog system for 80386's running MS-DOS.

How do I know this? Because I received a copy today.
There's a large white box with several manuals
(User Guide, Technical Reference manual, Programming Reference Manual,
plus documentation for whichever Toolkits you have),
and there is an envelope with the discs.

It all looks very glossy. So far I have received a generally
favourable impression from the manuals. I was feeling very
grateful to LPA, especially as this was a "review" copy. I
was looking forward to telling you how fast this 32-bit Prolog
from LPA is, and all sorts of nice things about it.

So I tried to install it. I'm afraid I didn't meet with any
marked degree of what we in the trade speak of as "success".
I haven't the foggiest notion why. And it's a vanilla
"Noname" ISA 386 machine with lots of memory and lots of disc.

I emphatically want to contrast this with LPA Prolog Professional
for PC/XT/AT and LPA Mac Prolog, both of which installed easily.

Seen from an MVS perspective, UNIX and MS-DOS are hard to tell apart.
