[net.movies] Blood Simple question

knight@rlgvax.UUCP (Steve Knight) (07/15/85)

I recently saw "Blood Simple" again, and remained in awe of this film.
One thing is bothering me, though--I can't account for all the chambers
in the gun, even though I specifically tried to keep an eye on them
this viewing. Recap, as I remember it:

When we see the gun opened, there are three bullets and three empty
chambers. The gun is ready to fire the second of the three bullets,
so there should be two gunshots, three clicks, and then a final gunshot.

There are two initial gunshots, one when Marty is shot and one
when the gun is accidentally kicked across the floor.

There is, of course, the final gunshot in the apartment.

I only remember, however, two clicks in between, in Marty's
attempts to fire the gun just before he's buried.

With all of the thought that went into the precise plotting of this film,
I can't believe the Coens overlooked something this obvious. What am I
missing? Am I misremembering the configuration of the bullets in the
gun, or did I just go comatose in counting the clicks in between?

Please MAIL responses to me; I'll post the consensus.
