(The following is only a piece of speculative fiction; any similarity
between this and actual DoD Policy is only accidental)

Dateline: June 22, 1990, Washington, DC.

The Pentagon announced today that, in order to solve the software
crisis and the shortage of trained Ada programmers, that the DoD will
take advantage of developments in natural language processing. All
DoD systems entering Advanced Development will be required to write
their software in natural language. However, until production-quality
natural language processors become available, the DoD will require the
use of English as a PDL.
