[net.music] Mick Jagger/Michael Jackson duet

{  Hey, I hope this works...  }

First, thanks to Greg Skinner of mit-eddie for explaining how to post
something. Hopefully, this will remove some confusion.

Guess what I just heard? Went up and raided some singles and found
the brand new Mick Jagger/Michael Jackson duet from the Jacksons new
album called "Victory", I think.

How did I know this would be around? Well, I bumped into something
kind of cute going through AP this morning: some radio station in
California, and I forget the call letters, played this song for 23
hours. They broke for commercials, news, etc., but whenever they
played a song, it was this one. They even lied and said that it
was someone else ("That's Cyndi Lauper here at...")

No one complained! However, one person did call in and mention that
he thought the engineer might have gone to sleep.

Anyway, the song is rather amusing. The first thing you notice is
the beat. Good beat. The second thing you notice is the vocals:
Mick Jagger. The next thing you notice is there seems to be a high
pitch noise in the background. Right! Michael! He gets pretty lost
when he sings next to Mick. Maybe it was a bad mixing job. All I
know is he gets lost in the soup. Lots of "oohs" and "ahhs" and
moans and such.

And finally, the last thing you notice is there isn't much else.
No lyrics came immediately to mind, carving themselves indelibly
into my head. Nothing really outstanding. Just a steady thump
thump thump.

Soon to be a major Top 40 Hit: Michael Jackson & Mick Jagger:
"State of Shock!"

(Hey, is it too late to change camps?)

Well, I was pretty offended when I heard about the song (I don't listen
to McCartney anymore...), I was unimpressed when I heard the song, and I
was livid when I heard that some silly station in (it had to be) CA
played it for 23 hours. (As if to punish me for flaming, WBCN is
playing the song as I write this...) If any station that I listened to
played ANY song, not to mention such a lame one (well, maybe I'd let
them get away with it if it were a really moby song (note: this is
a proper use of the word moby)) for 23 hours, I would destroy their
x-mitter. But now, BCN is playing some Stones, showing Mick in a
better light, so I feel better. What bothers me most about MJ
teaming up with people is I can just picture the orgasms that it
gives promoters and other agent-like people.

Really ! It is obvious that CBS is trying to boost Stones sales, since
they were stupid enough to sign a binding 10 year contract (through 1990)
at a cost of $ 10 million dollars with them. Hey, why not have the Apple
play the song (through an add-on card) while drawing their likeness on
the screen every time it boots up? I'm suprised that Detroit hasn't hired
the little twerp to sell millions of MJ limited edition <pick brand of
car>s. Things are really bad when one of the founding fathers has to
prop himself up with this....I wonder if we have to endure 6 more years
of this?

"State of Shock" is a definite waste of petro-chemicals. If the rest of
"Victory" is like this, I think many people will be disappointed (including
me, although since the Jacksons have decided not to play in Philly, I think
they have seen the last of my money anyway).

And what's this about Springsteen moving into the Meadowlands for almost
the entire last two weeks of July and the first of August?? Let's see who
makes the most money touring this year. At least Bruce hasn't gotten too
big to play in the places that made him what he is today (which I still
can't figure out).

BTW, I understand that Culture Club will return to the US sometime in the fall,
dates not yet announced.

I am afraid that I must draw the line at the song "State of Shock". Although
it will probably become a major top 40 hit and sell at least 1 million copies,
the tune is really uncreative and I am very disappointed in the fact that
they would use such a cheap trick (no flames, please, no offense to Cheap Trick
fans) to make money.
