[comp.lang.ada] Tools in Ada

spray@smu (08/16/87)

It is encouraging to see programming tools such as X Windows being
implemented in Ada. If source code is available it should make life
easier for those of us who are constantly switching from machine
to machine. Does anyone know of any efforts to produce Ada versions
of EMACS, MicroEMACS, RUNOFF, TeX, Kermit?

The Navy as part of the Ada Language System / Navy development is producing
a Text editor which will have a line editor component loosly based upon the
software tools ED editor, and a full screen editor which is loosly based upon
the VAX EDT editor. In addition, they are developing a Text formatter which
is based upon nroff with modifications to support classified documents and
conversion of documents originally formatted in RUNOFF.
