[comp.lang.ada] new convenor for WG9

MATHIS@A.ISI.EDU (12/20/87)

The following is a copy of a letter I just received from X3, the
Accredited Standards Committee for Information Processing
Systems, which is the U. S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for
ISO-IEC/JTC 1 and which has the responsibility for nominating a
new Convenor for ISO-IEC/JTC 1/SC 22/WG 9 Ada.

"SUBJECT: Second Call for Volunteers -- Working Group Convenor,
SC22/WG9, Ada

"You will recall that we issued a call for volunteers in late
October to close December 15. At the Ada Working Group meeting
in Paris [error, the meeting was in Boston] last week, the U. S.
community found out for the first time that the current convenor
was resigning. Staff was surprised since we thought the letter
of resignation was sent to those individuals directly by the
AJPO.

"As a result, we had a panic phone call to this office since the
U. S. participants do not want to relinquish the convenorship and
AFNOR has already indicated interest in supplying a convenor.

"I have notified my contacts in the Ada community that we will
extend the deadline until January 15, in order that all
volunteers may submit statements of management support and
experience.

"Hopefully we will be able to wrap this up in the very near
future.

"[Signed] Catherine A. Kachurik, TAG Administrator

"cc: Frances E. Schrotter, ANSI
Robert Mathis, for distribution to U. S. Ada participants"

PLEASE: Pass this message to others who might be interested. If
anyone is interested, let me know. Mrs. Virginia Castor,
Director, AJPO, should also be contacted. There are substantial
requirements and commitments expected. If you might be able to
help support the work of WG 9 in any way, please let me know.

It is most appropriate that the U. S. delegation
concentrate their support on a single candidate.
