Subj; movie recommendation If you really hate heavy metal, and want to see it thoroughly ridiculed, by all means go see the movie - 'This is Spinal Tap' This fake 'rockumentary', is by Rob 'meathead' Reiner and is surprizingly well made. It's not a hilarious movie, but it is pretty funny in a laid-back kind of a way. The musicians are portrayed as more than a bit dumb, and totally taken with their own self-importance. Good Sunday afternoon entertainment. ,Karl

I like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Krocus, Accept etc and I thought Spinal Tap had its good parts. hey, but then again I listen to Billy Cobham, Genesis, Throbbing Gristle, PIL, Kayak, UK, Ramones et al. Spinal Tap - an OK movie, not a GREAT movie. -- Andrew ...{rlgvax | decvax | ucbvax!allegra}!rochester!ritcv!ccivax!abh "From the ever cycling epicenter of Rochester...."

{ Big Bottom... } "This Is Spinal Tap" was not outrageously funny, like "Airplane" or anything like that. It's a bit more subtle. Lots of cute little things, like the band members and their herpes scars and the girlfriend who wants to take over the band (a la Yoko Ono) and disgruntled members and the like. Watch it closely. Catch the subtle little things. And if you're into that sort of music, it isn't half bad. In fact, some of the music has been getting radio airplay... -- "There are cases of spontaneous combustion... That doesn't surprise me. I don't think I'd buy the album, though; I can get all the mediocre heavy metal I want free just by turning on the radio! BTW, the latest Rolling Stone has an article about the Scorpions, comparing them to Spinal Tap. Actually, the Scorpions are an even better parody of heavy metal - only they don't know it! BTW, Spinal Tap is touring... they'll be in Boston (the Channel) on 7/7. The ad reads "You saw the movie... can you take it LIVE?" Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer will be among the regular cast on Saturday Night Live this fall. CG, of course, is a veteran of the National Lampoon's "Lemmings", as were John Belushi and Chevy Chase. Check out his work on the various Lampoon LP's. Andrew W.
