[comp.lang.ada] What is AdaNet?

elewis@olympos.cs.umd.edu (Ed Lewis) (08/23/88)

Anyone know where I might find some info on the AdaNet project? I think
it deals with coding the OSI networking protocols in Ada. If you know
what this project is about, or know of a reference, please reply to:

emerson@silmaril.gsfc.nasa.gov

Thanks! Curtis

It has nothing to do with the OSI networking protocols.

It is a commercial venture related to the Software Valley stuff funded in
part (if I remember correctly) by the AJPO, STARS, and NASA to provide a
network of computing resources and electronic communication for contractors
(and others) developing software in Ada. They were also supposed to have
software repositories and consulting services, etc. The goal appears to be
to have one place from which all sorts of Ada services are available, the
sort of to "be all things to all people" approach.

Last I heard, they had some EMAIL capability and possibly timesharing of the
DG compiler. For more information, contact Jim Rautner at 304-296-1459.
(Although I heard they have some EMAIL, I couldn't tell you how to get there
from here!)

Not to think that they are unique in this area, as we also offers general
timesharing, including the VADS compiler, and have various repositories
online. DEC also offers timesharing of its compiler as well.
