[comp.lang.ada] Ada BBS?

Mandel@BCO-MULTICS.HBI.HONEYWELL.COM (Mark Mandel) (09/23/88)

An acquaintance has asked me to try to find a BBS -- computer bulletin
board service, public-access dial-in system... -- that serves Ada
users. He does not have access to InterNet. I do not read this
newsgroup, so please mail any replies to me as

          Mandel@BCO-MULTICS.HBI.HONEYWELL.COM

[note that the capital and lowercase on "Mandel" are significant]

The Ada BBS is still struggling along. There are
a few problems that are being worked out as we speak.
The biggest problem is user support.

The Ada BBS may be reached at (301)-356-4532

now supports 8-bits, no parity 1200, 2400, and
9600 baud trailblazer modem.
By the weekend, there will be new bbs software which
fixes the upload and download problems. My recomendation
is that users hold off on using the bbs until October 1
after the system has been checked out.

the system, by the way is a unix386 implementation
and the new software is xbbs which supports multi
user conferencing, message handling, file downloading
using kermit, ymodem, sealink, xmodem, etc,
and chat facilities.

The files so far collected are reusable components from
NOSC, and source components given by users.

The conference topics are adabugs (those who want to report
bugs in PC ada compilers such as Meridian, Alsys, and Janus)

UnixAda, topics dealing with Ada in unix operations,

tools, topics dealing with software tools,

development, topics dealing with Ada in embedded systems development,

and

Signal Processing, topics dealing with Ada in the signal processing
world.

The Ada BBS was formerly the Meridian Users BBs, has been expanded
to include not only Meridian Users, but welcomes all users of
PC Ada compilers, Unix Ada Compilers, etc.

The Ada BBS is supported by the System Operator with out of pocket
expenses. It is not supported by any compiler vendor. To be successfull,
the Ada BBs will need user support.
