                                                                              1
Sponsored by the Software Engineering Institute in cooperation with ACM SIGAda
                                  and Ada UK

  The second International Workshop on Real Time Ada Issues, held in June 1988
at Manor House Hotel, Moretonhampstead, England, brought together a broad
representation of the Ada community to address the use of Ada in real time
applications. Areas covered included scheduling mechanisms, distributed
systems, and fault tolerance.

  Ada is today being used successfully in many real time applications, but
since a revision of Ada is expected to start in 1989, now is the time to
consider what changes might make it even more usable. The purpose of the 3rd
Workshop is to develop specific proposals that will make the revised version of
Ada more suitable for real time and distributed applications.

  The workshop will be held near Pittsburgh. Attendance will be limited to 35
participants selected on the basis of short position papers. Prospective
attendees should submit a 3-10 page position paper on topics such as:

   - new or modified Ada language capabilities for real time and
     distributed applications, including proposals for standard packages;

   - real time application requirements that the Ada language does not
     meet well, including the use of Ada for distributed processing;

   - why changes are not needed to satisfy certain requirements frequently
     mentioned by real time application developers or by developers of
     distributed systems.

  All submitted papers should be suitable for publication in the Proceedings
and should arrive at the address listed below not later than 1 February 1989.

  A small number of participants will be requested to prepare presentations
outlining proposals for discussion within working groups. Following the
workshop, it is expected that selected position papers will be published as
part of the workshop Proceedings in a special edition of SIGAda Ada Letters.
