[comp.lang.ada] Significant Corporate Commitments to Ada Technology?

eberard@ajpo.sei.cmu.edu (Edward Berard) (01/27/89)

I'm trying to track down some rumors. I can't seem to get any real
answers, just more rumors. If anyone could help me with this, I would
greatly appreciate it.

	1. General Electric has supposedly made a significant
corporate commitment to Ada technology -- not just for DoD
related work, but on a corporate wide basis. Is there any
	   truth to this?

	2. Some of the corporations involved in the STARS "competing
primes" efforts were also rumored to have made significant
commitments to Ada technology. Once again, I am not talking
	   about strictly for DoD work.

	3. I would also be interested in hearing about any other large
	   corporate commitments to Ada technology.

Thank you for any time and consideration.

Well, when I interviewed with GE, the person I spoke with claimed that
there was a severe shortage of people with Ada experience at GE, and they
were trying to rectify it.. He did give me the impression that they are
planning to use Ada heavily, although I don't know if that meant GE was
going to use Ada corporate-wide.

At Tri-Ada '88, Unisys had a booth at which they showcased their
contributions to Ada technology, which included their Ada Command
    Environment and Reuseability Library Framework:

"For additional information, contact the Paoli Research Center,
Unisys Corporation, Defense Systems, P.O. Box 517, Paoli, PA, 19301.
        Or call (215) 648-7624."

The Ada Command Environment basically amounts to an Ada-like
operating system environment. The Reuseability Library Framework
is concerned with the management of libraries of software components,
including the use of knowledge-based systems to facilitate queries.
