Here in the Boston area, I have been becoming increasingly appalled at the practice of first run theatres (read Sack cinemas) to show films that were produced with stereo sound in mono. Perhaps the theatre owners figure that their audience these days is maily teenagers who don't give a damn. On the other hand, Hi-Fi VCRs would not be selling as well as they are if there was not some sort of demand out there for quality. My personal response to this is not to attend such showings, and to wait until the videocassette comes out. This doesn't always work so well, of course, especially in the case of a film that really benefits from big screen and/or the presence of audience - or a film that I really want to see NOW. In any event, I feel the time has come to let the managers know that they are losing my business, and to urge others who feel the same to do likewise. I called Sack theatre general offices, and was told that letters on this subject should be send to Charles Goldwater, Vice President of Operations, Sack Theatres, 141 Tremont St., Boston (don't know the ZIP).
