Has anyone out there seen this movie? It's really interesting, but I can't decide exactly how I feel about it. I strongly reccomend it, however, because it IS such a fascinating movie. I also heard that the first part of the movie ("The New World", I believe) was originally the complete idea, and that the rest was added later. But maybe that's what it was supposed to convey--a black-and-white, down-and-out, going-nowhere life in lumpen-ville, where the characters look upon a visit to Cleveland ("It's very beautiful.") as if it were Fiji. Well, you share their myopia and their misery. Bo-ring. Pilots have a saying: "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing." Only by applying this logic could you call "Stranger Than Paradise" a good movie. -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 13 Aug 85 [26 Thermidor An CXCIII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7753 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!iwsl8!ken *** ***

I really liked this movie; however, I can understand how someone wouldn't. It provided an interesting look at the United States or more specifically at NY/NJ and Cleveland. The one thing I found lacking in the movie was passion. Even when people were yelling I didn't feel any passion. This may be what the director intended. I found that trying to follow any kind of plot was impossible, so I just watched it scene - by - scene. Oh well, One question: What rock band did the lead character play in in real life? I keep forgetting.

The band is the Lounge Lizzards, but I forget the lead characters real name. I too enjoyed Stranger Than Paradise. I particularly liked the scene when they went to "see" Lake Erie on a cloudy winter day. All you could see besides the characters was white, clouds and the frozen lake. Anyway I still can't get 'I Put a Spell on You' out of my mind. rm
