Does anybody know if there is an Ada binding for GKS (Graphical Kernel System)? Does anybody know where one might get such a thing, if it exists? Inquiring minds want to know. Daniel Kjerne kjerne@max.acs.washington.edu (206)545-8654

There appears to be an implementation in the Ada Software Repository on SIMTEL20. There are also a number of vendors who sell an implementation or a binding. PRIOR Data Sciences of CANADA for one. -- Karl -- Karl A. Daniel Kjerne writes asking about Ada bindings to GKS. Yes there is an Ada binding to GKS. It is in fact an ANSI (and ISO) approved standard. The standard no is X3.124.3-1989 (8?). I believe it costs about $30 + $5 shipping and handling. About implementations of this standard 1. HP supplies GKS bindings to its Ada compiler on the HP9000s300 and HP9000s800 (I worked on these products). 2. I have heard that DEC has it too. 3. I have seen on some IBM PC AT platforms, though I don't know which ones. On a related note there is also an upcoming Ada binding to PHIGS (Programmers Hierarchical Interactive Graphics System). Currently, it is a draft standard with ISO with the number dIS 9593-3:198x(E). This is the copy that I have, there may be a more current one. The document editor for this standard was (and probably still is) Richard F. Puk (Puk Consulting Services). I do not know of anyone that has an implementation of Ada bindings to PHIGS. -- Does anybody know if there is an Ada binding for GKS -- (Graphical Kernel System)? Hewlett-Packard has Ada/GKS as well as Ada/Starbase bindings. I'm not quite sure whether they come with the compiler or whether they have to be purchased separately. HP also supplies the Ada/SQL bindings. Thomas Vachuska (-- Ada Addict)

You might also try GTS-Gral (a company run by Guenther Pfaff, who co-authored _the_ book on GKS) for a variety of implementations, from Unix to IBM PCs. There is also a company in Florida who produce a version for the IBM PC - I can't remember the name offhand, but can look it up if anyone is interested. I can also get my hands on an address for GTS-Gral.
