There are two movies I have questions about: I saw part of a movie on TV one night that looked interesting. It was set in Scotland I believe with the main cast working for a newspaper. It seems something had happened, and the weather started freaking out: tornadoes, rising temperatures, natural disasters, etc. There was some kind of romance story involved also. Does anyone know the title of this movie? I didn't get to see the end or most of the movie. Second Question: Walker Percy's book _Love in the Ruins_ supposedly came out as a movie. Has anyone seen it? Is it any good? I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would be interested in the movie.

I believe the movie is _The Day the Earth Caught Fire_. The description fits the movie. Thanks for the info. Whatever happened to _Love in the Ruins_?

It starred Edward Judd, Janet Munro, and Leo McKern (and for those who are fast of eye or quick of ear, Michael Caine plays a policeman). Edward Judd plays a reporter for a London newspaper when all the ruckus starts. It seems that the Americans and Russians each set off an atomic blast at the same instant and the Earth was knocked off its orbit toward the sun. This is why the climate of Britian suddenly starts changing. Munro plays the assistant of a scientist. The scientist knows what is going on but does not want the information released. Munro releases it to Judd and is fired as a result. The film concentrates on witty dialog and for once the main characters are not the prime movers in the disaster but just innocent bystanders. The film was done in black and white. Mark Leeper ...ihnp4!mtgzz!leeper

Actually, it sounds more like ISLAND OF THE BURNING DAMNED, a.k.a. ISLAND OF THE BURNING DOOMED) (1967), with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing (based on the John Lymington novel THE NIGHT OF THE BIG HEAT). (If this doesn't prove that Mark Leeper and Evelyn Leeper are two different people, then nothing will! :-)) Evelyn C. Leeper ...ihnp4!mtgzz!ecl
