[comp.lang.ada] Linkers

kim@wacsvax.cs.uwa.OZ.AU (Kim Shearer) (08/22/90)

I am looking for a better linker for SCO Unix V.3.2.0

I am trying to get gcc, gcc-as and particularly gcc-ld to run
 on a 386 (Compaq 33) under SCO Unix V.3.2.0

The real reason is that the people using this machine, are
using the Telesoft Ada compiler and have exceeded some of the
 limits for the standard linker.

If anyone else out there has found a solution to this problem
could they please please please let me know, perferably by email.

They would therefore like to get gcc-ld going as they have
been advised that it is better.

Currently I can get to stage one done, in the creation of gcc,
but when I try the next stage I get "program as terminated with
signal 8". The wording may be a little wrong but the intent is
 there.

Gas is made with seemingly no problems, but I suspect that the
above may be an gcc-as error.

These guys need to use the coff-encupsulation option. I guess
 that makes things hard :-(

If anyone can give me any hints, or even better point me at some
executables which I might ftp (or email some to me :-) probably
too big for that I suppose) I would be hugely grateful.

I have read and complied with the README-ENCAP file in the binutils
distribution, and think I have the options correct.

The stuff is needed in a bit of a hurry.
