[net.movies] Ruined music

slb@drutx.UUCP (Sue Brezden) (08/20/85)

This is not a classical piece, but one ruined bit of music
for me is "Have yourself a merry little Christmas". I keep
thinking about the scene in "The Victors" (does anyone else
remember that movie) where a soldier who ran in battle is
exectuted (shot) to that tune.

Do you really think that music was "ruined" in that scene? I've
always thought og that as one of the BEST uses of music in a movie
I've ever seen. Two things to remember, the incident portrayed
was a true one, and that song was (I think) a big hit that Xmas (1945?).
It has always made "The Victors", to me at least, one of the greatest
anti-war movies ever made. Oh well, we are all allowed our own opinion.

BTW, if you really want to talk about "ruined music", how about "Singing
in the Rain" in "A Clockwork Orange"?

You're right, I can't hear that song anymore without the kicks and grunts
inserting themselves in it.
