[comp.lang.ada] Ada in industry and Ada in schools

How much do Ada compilers cost? I don't really see cost as being an obstacle
to a school getting an Ada compiler. At Tennessee Technological University,
we had the DEC Ada compiler on our VAX 8800. The peak times of use, would
occur once a year when the Ada class is taught (I believe 2 years passed by the
last time it was taught.) The remainder of the year, only about 20 people used
the compiler.

I don't know if using Ada in school is really an issue. Experience was the
factor for me in finding a job. I would have loved to gotten a job that used
Ada, but I did not have any experience (outside of the school projects that
I did in Ada). Everyone I interviewed with wanted an experienced Ada
programmer/analyst, none were looking for entry level people.

So, it might be the case that the employers send their employees to training
in Ada, instead of schools offerring the classes.

How extensive is this new mandate on using Ada? (With the government, for
every rule, there seems to be SEVERAL loopholes.

Opinions are my own... not my employer's...
