The indented material below is a note I received from Chris Anderson, the Ada9x project manager, in response to all the network traffic about the reference in the Ada9x Transition Plan to an educational Ada compiler. This is posted with Chris' permission. She's listening, gang! [The only nit I'd pick is that I wish they'd stop referring to the universities as a "marketplace" and start seeing us as their ally in promoting the use of Ada in _their_ marketplace! When I discussed "free compilers" in the Ada 9X Transition Plan, my intent was not to develop compilers from scratch but to encourage vendors to enhance EXISTING PRODUCTS for the university marketplace. I also agree with comments that I have heard that it would be advisable to do this for Ada 83 and then upgrade to Ada 9X rather than waiting for Ada 9X --we'll have to see how far the budget can stretch.
