<It hasn't happened yet.> Needed: Opinions, criticisms, love/hate, statements. I have a *relative* interest in the group Berlin from Southern California. I'm interested to know what individuals think of their music. If you have a statement, send it to me by mail. If you think net.music can stand it, post it and we'll see what happens from there. Thanks, ptsfa!kmo (Don't ask me how to get there!)

References: <183@ptsfa.UUCP> I imagine that if you mean relative, there could be blood ties here, so I shall be gracious. I personally don't care for Berlin. Generally speaking, I tend to be wary of bands that line up behind an "image" (and I certainly don't mean to single Berlin out, though they are a pretty good paradigm case perhaps)-of late the favourite way to do it is to pick a person as icon, wed that to some vaguely nostalgic yearnings and sell it as intelligence...Icehouse, the Fixx, Missing Persons, etc. That happens because it works as a marketing strategy, and heaven knows with the record industry doing what it's doing, the band in the crowd needs to stay secure. I listened to the new album (since I have a rather nostalgic attatchment to Giorgio Moroder and like to keep in touch with his work). Nice gloss, lotsa chrome, designer seats, no engine. Pretty girl behind the wheel. America can definitely do better than this. gtaylor
