Weren't the !Kung restricted to a specific region in Africa by the government with the expectation that they would begin farming instead of hunting and gathering? As I heard it, the !Kung came down with a bad case of social shock and have suffered badly. Their entire social structure has been upset right down to the psychology of the tribesmen (case in point, they now laugh when most people would think crying would be the appropriate behavior). They are fast becoming extinct. To top it all off, the land they were moved to isn't satisfactory farming soil. Did the documentary address any of these points? -- Mike Kilian

Okay, okay, I'm interested in the !kung ! So where can I READ about them besides undocumented messages in this newsgroup? And that scene in "The Gods Must Be Crazy" where the woman in her workplace passes something to a black "co"-worker. Isn't this total misrepresentation, and can one assume it is only for improving South African foreign relations? Or the director wishes things were more egalitarian?
