there are a number of chips available with on-chip FORTH. Rockwell and Novix for example (Novix sell single board versions - very fast, but in the $3,000 range if I remember correctly). Motorola sells a microprocessor (68H11 I believe) with on-chip ROM. an outfit call New Micros (Dallas, TX I believe) sells a chip with FORTH programmed into the ROM. with 3 chips (TTL oscillator, LT-1080, and the 68H11) and 5V, you're in business. for about $200 you can buy a board ready to go (it has more than 3 chips - extended memory, addition chip sockets, etc.) -r. kline ihnp4!houdi!rvk

re FORTH on a chip, New Micros, Inc, offers on board FORTH on a 68HC11, as well as development boards. New Micros, Inc. 1601 Chalk Hill Rd. Dallas, TX 75212 214/339-2204 their NMIX-0023 development board is about $200. it has about 8K of RAM, all necessary rs232 interfaces, and on board power generation.
