We are currently in the process of renaming a large set of primitives in a FORTHlike language. In `Thinking FORTH', an appendix contains a set of naming conventions: file( open )file close +trace turn on -trace turn off which I have paid some attention to in defining our new primitive names. Another consideration is that this language owes some of its heritage to structured languages, and really only uses FORTH for its expressions. What I want to know is, are these or any other naming conventions *in* any of the FORTH standards? If anyone has a copy of FORTH`83 standards or something earlier, I would appreciate hearing (by email) from them to discover if there is anything about naming conventions in them. It could be that Brodie just defined it for purposes of Thinking FORTH and it died after that. If he or anyone else wrote an authoritative book on FORTH with new conventions, I'd appreciate hearing about that too. I'll summarize the references/suggestions I get to the net.
