[comp.lang.forth] Macintosh Forths

ns@cat.cmu.edu (Nicholas Spies) (10/15/88)

I am familiar with both MacForth and Mach2 for the Mac; both have their
strong points (MacForth has an excellent editor and object-oriented extension
package, etc whereas Mach2 is subroutine-threaded and provides an easy
interace to call any ROM functions, etc). Both support file editing and can
be used to develop 'real' applications just like 'real' languages--only
perhaps taking less time.. :-) See MacTutor for monthly Forth column to see
some of the things one can do...

Steve, Forth has come a long way on the 68000. The BEST 68k
Forth is JForth from Delta Research, which unfortunately only
runs on Amiga. Mach2 ain't half bad. There is extensive discussion
of MacIntosh Forths on the official telecom outlet of the Forth Interest
Group, the FIG RT on GEnie. The FIG RT Software Lib also includes a
PD Forth for Mac.

That's ok, Steve, us Forthers don't give the sweat off our
	balls to Microsoft!
