I noticed in BYTE April 1989 What's New that the Silicon Valley Chapter of FIG has donated F-PC 2.25 to the public domain. Is the company listed in the article (Offete Enterprises, San Mateo, CA) the only place I can get this package from? Since it's PD, I thought there would be somewhere else I could get it from for next to nothing, rather than pay Offete's $75 ($25, plus $50 for manuals). thanks for the help -- Rick Low MEL Defence Systems Limited, Ottawa, Canada +1 613 836 6860 mitel!melair!low@uunet.UU.NET

You can get the entire package from Simtel20. If you do not have ftp access, Simtel has a mail server that you can use. There are 6 parts to the f-pc 2.25 package that total just over 1.2 Meg. If you need to know more about the mail server, look for an article in c.b.i.p.d that describes mail access to Simtel20. The author is Keith Peterson (sp?). He posts the article regularly. If you can't find it, I'll mail you a copy. I've downloaded the package and find it quite good, but it is *big*. I'd like to get the manuals, and $50.00 sounds like a bargain to me. What is the Offete's address? -larry -- Larry Williamson -- Focus Systems -- Waterloo, Ontario watmath!focsys!larry (519) 746-4918

This bulletin board system has a LOT of activity, and it offers MANY F-PC packages, including graphics, IEEE floating point, etc! I have not gotten it yet, but will in a week or so. I've been waiting for a great environment with a lot of support to start learning FORTH, and it looks like this is IT for IBM-PC owners! I think the basic stuff, documentation and manuals, will fit on 3 or 4 diskettes. The available files also include tutorials for F-PC, and "conferences" for F-PC support.

You can get F-PC 2.25 from the RCFB in Colorado at 303-278-0364, which connects at 300/1200/2400. If there is another Forth board in your area, I'm sure it would have it. BTW, Does anyone have a number for the East Coast Forth whatever? I would prefer a number in the 508 area code, but anything in or near Massachussettes would be OK. AndrewB.
