[net.movies] Plenty

I saw "Plenty" this weekend. I didn't think too much of it. I did
think that the acting was well done, and the sets were well put together,
but it moved very slowly, and I couldn't identify with the characters very
well. If you go to see it because Sting is billed as a co-star, you will
be surprised how little he is in it. He is one of the many characters that
is hurt by the selfishness of Meryl Streep's character.
The high point of this film was the woman who played Streep's
 apartmentmate.
When I first came out of this film, I thought that the problem was
that I had become used to fast moving action films, or films with high
suspense or drama. This is a different kind of film, and clearly lacks
all of these attributes. But comparing it to something a little more arty,
I still think it falls down.
I would give it two stars (out of 4) on the strength of the cast,
but with a warning that it can seem pretentious or gassy.
