Help : Help file for using OLIS ------------------^--------------------------------------------------------- *** OLIS **** OLIS stands for "on-line information service". It is a simple database which can be accessed by electronic-mail. This file describes how to use OLIS. Sending Requests To OLIS. OLIS lives in my account at "TROLFS@vax1.tcd.ie". If you want to send in a requests to OLIS then you MUST put "OLIS:REQUEST" somewhere in the SUBJECT line. Anything form "OLIS:REQUEST" to "OLIS:R" will work and don't worry about the case (ie. it's not case sensitive). If you don't do this then your request will end up in MY mailbox and I will probably ignore it. Making A Request. If you have put "OLIS:REQUEST" (or allowable variant) in the SUBJECT line then you requests will be processed by OLIS. OLIS processes requests by looking in the main body of your mail for certain COMMANDS. These commands are: 1) SEND <Filename> This tells OLIS to send you a copy of the file specified. If you put in the line: SEND HELP you would get a copy of this file. Send CONTENTS, will send you a listing of all the files which are presently available. 2) PATH <Address> PATH lets you specify a different return address then the one that you have mailed your requests from. Any SEND command which comes before this command, will send files to the original address and not the PATH address. All files sent after the PATH command will be sent to the new address. 3) HELP This is the same as saying SEND HELLO SEND HELP SEND CONTENTS See CONTENTS file for a listing of available files. __ MISC. There are probably hundreds of bugs, so let me know if you discover any and I will try (time willing) to fix them. OLIS, due to time and resource constraints, is very simple and no guarantees can be made that your requests will done. Hopefully, if I get more time and resources (and people use and contribute to OLIS), I will upgrade it and generally improve its facilities. - Tommy (OLIS Developer/Janitor) ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Tommy E-mail: trolfs@vax1.tcd.ie // Amiga 500. \\// What's your's called? $P-) -----------------\X----------------------------------------------------- "Oh what wouldn't I give to be spat at in the face..." -- a prisoner in "Life of Brian"
