[comp.lang.forth] Chiming In

4rst@unmvax.cs.unm.edu (Forrest Black) (12/21/89)

I thought I would add my moral support to this group by posting. This
way, those people who feel that Forth is in decline will see that there
are still beginners interested.

Some of my friends in the Physics department here at UNM are so fanatical
about Forth that I eventually snagged a copy of F-PC from SIMTEL20. Fun
to play with, yes, but a more twisted language I will never see. Forth
makes technical German look like Basic English. I got some books, Starting
and Thinking, and even though many of the concepts in these books are gems,
the language itself is (by definition :-) in flux so much that I don't think
I could write code that would port as easily as, say, C, which has problems
re porting of it's own.

I played around, and wrote some small (~30 :defs) programs. I decided that
I didn't like the editor in F-PC 2.25, and set about trying to unship it so
I could use Norton's Editor instead. This worked to some degree, but it
appears that Zimmer's editor is more integrated into F-PC than is let on.

Has anyone been able to *seamlessly* integrate another editing strategy into
F-PC?

Apologies to T.Z. Flames welcome, just use e-mail.
