I received a New Micros 68HC11 Board (with Forth in ROM) for Christmas.
I am now thirsting for information and source code / tools that others
may have developed for this single board computer.

Would all those with one of these New Micros 68HC11 boards please stand
up and be counted. Perhaps we can get some discussion going here.

In particular I am looking for a PD Assembler(Forth) for this board. I
did not purchase the one that New Micros offered because I figured that
there might be a PD version available.

 Regards, Jack.

I think you know what I have (like Motorola docs). Let me know if
you want copies of any of it. Did you know that there is a
Motorola BBS? Let me if you need the number (I don't have it
 handy).

We're involved with 68HC11 projects. They network very nicely
serially under RS485 with other devices, such as VESTA's new MC68000
Single Board Computer with its MC68681 DUART.

I got an NMI 68HC11 board and fooled around with it for a while,
but didn't have any serious applications in mind. Mostly I just
 verified that it Forths okay.

How's is the project going? I have Bert parked beside me waiting to have
some wires hooked up. I am having some trouble getting a fire under me
to get going again. My flu still keeps plaguing me, and arthritis too.
It's fun. I picked up some books on algorithmics, nice stuff. Have you
read 'Programming Pearls' by Jon Bentley, really good with nice writing.
Are you interested in some 68000 books? A store near here has a great
raft of them. I just picked up the 1988 Communications of the ACM for
 $10 which is not bad.
 regards john

FInc also has a nice target compiler which offers a bit more versatility
than Randy's otherwise charming ROM-resident Forth system.

I have the Motorola docs I got from you, as well my NMI board came with
 a MC68HC11 Data book (doc # MC68HC11A8/D) and an HC11 programming
 reference guide ( doc # MC68HC11A8RG/AD ). I have also borowed some
notes from a fellow that took the 68HC11 assembly language programming
course that is offered by the Instrumentation and Process Control Group
 at BCIT.

My Newmicros board NMIX-022 is a Rev 2.1 board that supports onboard
battery backup for the CMOS ram.

The verison of Forth is MAX Forth 3.3.

I was a little disapointed on my first trial inspection of the Forth
system.... After reseting the terminal input buffer and dictionary
pointer to use external ram I decided to try some defintions.

For some reason while browsing the manual I noticed it included both
CREATE and <BUILDS . I was curious as to why so tried to redefine
 constant like so:

 : CON CREATE , DOES> @ ; 1111 CONSTANT JUNK

 Guess what.... It doesn't work!

Closer inspection of the word descriptions indicates that <BUILDS should
be used with DOES> and in the description of CREATE there is no
 mention of DOES> .

The above definition does work if the CREATE is replaced by <BUILDS

So much for MAX Forth being a super set of the Forth 83 standard...
You cannot CREATE .... DOES> as you can in Forth 83.

Would that happen to be a Forth Target compiler?

Jax, do you know if there is a PD 68HC11 Forth assembler that would load
on top of Randy's ROM-resident Forth system.

If that is not available there should at least be a 6800 Forth assembler
kicking around that could be modified for the HC11. I have downloaded
all the HC11 related stuff in the BCFB library and will let you know
 what I find.
