The On-Line Information Service
for
Novice and Intermediate
Forthers
* About OLIS
------------
Forthers seems to be few and far between. Indeed, trying to find out
about Forth for the first time can be very hard unless you know where
to look. Comp.lang.forth is certainly a source of a lot of information
on Forth and the Forthing community, but it is only available for a
short time before it is removed from disk.
OLIS is an effort to collect info, useful to novice and intermediate
Forthers, from sources such as comp.lang.forth, as well as other
sources, and make it available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The service is aimed at helping people how are totaly new to Forth, as
well as those who have grasped the fundementals of the language and
want to explore deeper.
If you have anything that would be of help to other Forthers, OLIS is
where you should send it.
OLIS is a fairly modest affair. Even if it only manages to help a
few people then it has been well worth the effort. Hopefully though,
it will be of benefit to many.
* How OLIS Works
----------------
OLIS is a simple setup. In coming mail with "OLIS:REQUEST" in the
subject line are extracted and appended to a file. Every six hours,
OLIS processes the requests and mails out the files. All this is done
automatically and I never actually see the requests. Of course, if the
subject line is wrong then I do see them and I have to manually
extract them. This means that if I don't login for a few days, your
requests will be delayed accordingly.
To find out how to actually request files, read the HELP file.
* DISCLAIMERS
-------------
OLIS is not in any way connected with or supported by Trinity College.
The service is entirely my own doing. Any problems or queries should be
directed to me and not to TCD. Also, TCD may decide to stop OLIS at any
time and without prior notice.
No responsibility is assumed for accuracy of information contained in
OLIS's files. Use the information at your own discretion.
