Forth-79 is still around but pretty dormant generally. The Forth-79 implementation MVP-Forth is a nice intro to Forth on the Amiga, but not very useful for interfacing the operating system. A4TH1.5 is a Laxen & Perry Forth-83 "clone" in 32-bits for Amiga, and it's PD and downloadable everywhere. There is NO true Forth-83 implementation on the Amiga, since Forth-83 says 16 bits, and all decent Amiga Forths are 32-bits. The ANSI Standard Forth is on the way, give it another 18 months is my unofficial guess. >2) Is J-Forth for the Amiga a worthy product (it will be my $150 bucks)? Yes. So is MultiForth. JForth is my fave, though. A complete Amiga development environment for one third the price of a comparable C environment. >3) Is Forth good for Amiga graphics (what else, sound perhaps)? It's good for whatever Amiga is good for. JForth has a lot of neet "pre-fab" graphics stuff written you can play with. >4) Is there other literature you would recommend? _Threaded Interpretive Languages_, Loeliger, BYTE Books, 1981 _Inside F83_, C.H. Help. Everyone keeps telling me how wonderful J-Forth is, but I can't seem to find a copy for love or money! Calls to Phil Burke at his rumored part-time position at Mill's College go unanswered. Delta Research's number gives me a musical "Hiiiiii, leave a message" at which point I do and nothing further happens. I can understand how some people might be reluctant to return my calls in Munich, but they should bear in mind that Germany is a Bigger Amiga market than the U.S. and that a little P.R. certainly wouldn't hurt. If I can manage to get my hands on this product and find it good, I'll certainly spread the word around. Lack of German docs is probably not that significant since most German techhies speak english. C'mon you guys! What's going on?? (Any and all information appreciated). I was able to order JForth from Computer Discount without any trouble. I don't know if they take foreign orders, but I find it odd that German dealers don't have JForth available. Anyway, I'll try to dig up the Computer Discount address & phone number and post . . . -- -- Brian, the Man from Babble-on. ...!mcnc!rti!sas!bts -- (Brian Schellenberger) "No one will ever write a song called 'Nitro Burning Funny Cars'" -- THE DEAD MILKMEN, "Nitro Burning Funny Cars"

Or, mail phil@mills.berkeley.EDU; that's Phil Burk, one of JForth's authors. --rbt
