If you view FORTH in its proper context (in my opinion) as a high-level abstract machine language, then a precise definition of any and all division operations, or any other arithmetic or logical operation, is necessary. Imagine trying to write assembly/machine language programs for a computer where it wasn't exactly defined. That FORTH is an abstract and enhancable machine shouldn't absolve it from this requirement. The ANSI guys and gals are right in this matter. Jeff Sicherman jajz801@calstate.bitnet
