[net.music] YAquiz - a rarely responded to new music quiz

rlr@pyuxn.UUCP (Rich Rosen) (07/03/84)

Only two responses to this whole quiz (as opposed to six for the
Motown quiz). Tsk, tsk... I thought I'd give credit where credit
is due. The only two respondents were unc!sherouse (George Sherouse)
and smcvax!bert (Bert Campbell).

1. Sometimes I forget that we're supposed to be in love
	"PARADE" - MAGAZINE (REAL LIFE)
(George knew this, but then his signature line is/was another
Devotoism. Bert only recognized it as a Devotoism.)

2. Is my timing that flawed, our respect run so dry.
"LOVE WILL TEAR US APART" - JOY DIVISION

3. Never mind you wouldn't understand anyway.
	"BRAINWASH" - FLIPPER

4. I run away from toilets and feces.
"FRIGHTENED" - THE FALL (LIVE AT THE WITCH TRIALS)

5. Now she's in purple, now she's a turtle.
"CHRISTINE" - SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES (KALEIDOSCOPE)
	(Bert got this one.)

6. Watch TV and have a couple of brews.
	"TV PARTY" - BLACK FLAG
(I would have thought tekig!davidl or garfield!sean (now
philabs!scb would have gotten this one and number 3 at
	 least!)

7. I could not take the pressure so I had to take the train.
"PICNIC BOY" - THE RESIDENTS (COMMERCIAL ALBUM)
(George recognized the Residents, but didn't know the
song or album. By the way, it's Lene Lovich on vocals.)

8. Let the signal run through my veins.
	"T.V.O.D." - THE NORMAL

9. Some would say we were friends, I won't make that mistake again.
"FROM A WINDOW TO A SCREEN" - THE dB's (REPERCUSSION)

10. I'm pacing the floor, I'm wearing it smooth.
	"WHAT USE?" - TUXEDOMOON (HALF-MUTE)

11. It's a god given fact, that you can't go back.
"SHRIVEL UP" - DEVO (Q: ARE WE NOT MEN? A: WE ARE DEVO)
	(George got this one, too.)

12. Please everybody, if we haven't done all we could have done we've tried.
"BEATLES CHRISTMAS RECORD 1966" - THE BEATLES
"BEYOND THE VALLEY OF A DAY IN THE LIFE" - THE RESIDENTS
(The Residents co-opted this line, said by Ringo on the '66
Xmas record, for their Beatles tape montage.)

13. From New Jersey to Japan...
"CAP THE KNIFE" - FRED FRITH (CHEAP AT HALF THE PRICE)
(Chalk up another one for George.)

14. He's got a mind like a sewer and a heart like a fridge.
"MAN OUT OF TIME" - ELVIS COSTELLO (iMpErIaL bEdRoOm)
(And this one for George as well.)

15. Rosalie, I've been waiting all evening, possibly years, I don't know...
"EVERYTHING MERGES WITH THE NIGHT" - BRIAN ENO (ANOTHER GREEN WORLD)
(Both George and Bert knew this one.)

16. Staring at the sea, staring at the sand.
"KILLING AN ARAB" - THE CURE (BOYS DON'T CRY or THREE IMAGINARY BOYS)

17. Meet Iggy Pop and David Bowie.
	"TRANS-EUROPE EXPRESS" - KRAFTWERK (TRANS-EUROPE EXPRESS)

18. Of course I've had it in the ear before.
"LUST FOR LIFE" - IGGY POP (LUST FOR LIFE)
(George got this one. Should have been a giveaway after the
	 previous question's "hint"...)

19. I don't have to prove that I am creative.
"ARTISTS ONLY" - TALKING HEADS (MORE SONGS ABOUT BUILDINGS AND FOOD)
(Both Bert and George knew this one.)

20. Why don't you dance with me? I'm not no limburger.
"DANCE THIS MESS AROUND" - THE B-52's (THE B-52's)
	(... and this one.)

Final totals: George - 42, Bert - 22. Admittedly, some of it was obscure.
Thanks to Bert and George for participating.

Now I've lost my train of thought. I'll have to catch the bus of thought.
