>To this list I would like to add a Mexican space monster >movie I saw about a machine that lands from space and eats >power stations. Whoa there! You are talking about KRONOS, a film I loved as a kid. Seeing it more recently I was surprised at how bad parts were, but other parts were still quite impressive. It is not Mexican, there are only scenes set in Mexico. I believe it was made by a film company called Regal and released by Fox. It doesn't eat power stations, it collects energy (why it can't collect direct from the sun is never really clear). >When viewed from a distance the machine is >depicted with some of the worst animation I have ever seen. Considering the film was made for a reported $160,000 in 1957 it has an impressive look. For the time, I don't think the animation was all that bad. >Close up it is rather like the top of a warehouse. Sure. It's big and flat. What did you expect? >Worst no >effort at all was used to keep it the same size throughout, >and it changes in size by more than an order of magnitude, >depending on the scene, and how they are trying to show it. Not so. It grows as it goes, as explained in the plot, but the scale is kept pretty accurate. Seen today it is not as good as it used to be, but it still is a decent example of 50's science fiction film. Mark Leeper ...ihnp4!mtgzz!leeper
