I went to the trouble of fixing most of the problems I found with BASIS14 files. I now have rtf format (and hope to have postscript tomorrow) of the results. There are a rew glitches, but everything is ON THE PAGE, which makes it a lot easier to read. Basically, the primary problem was due to styles being defined to set text to negative offsets, often as much as -1.5 inches from the 0 line of the text. There were also some styles set to offset from the edge of the page rather than the margin, and those moved back on the page when set to margin offset. I have no idea why the styles were set this way, (does anyone?), but the quickest way to fix it is to determine which styles are used for headers and tables and set them so they are only offset by -.5 (so that they are still offset from the main margins). The major styles affected are header, footer, header [1-7], side head, header side, table[], table[first], table[last], table[head], and glossary name. However, I can't guarantee that that is an exhaustive list. The basic method is to select Define Styles under the Format header (this is all on a mac, but similar to word for windows), highlight the style you want to change, select Paragraphs under Format, and make the changes. After changing them, you have to click the Define button under the style window to make your change permanent. If you have no way to do these operations yourself, or have tried and can't figure out what I'm talking about, I can try to distribute copies via email of either the rtf format files or (if I succeed in converting) the PostScript format files I intend to generate tomorrow. If there is enough interest, and someone is capable of putting these up for anonymous ftp, it would be greately appreciated, since I would really rather NOT get into the business of file distribution on a large scale.
